Editorial Portfolio Project

As part of an academic portfolio project at the Deutsche Meisterschule für Mode (MfM) also called Designschule München, an editorial fashion shoot brought student design work into a professional studio environment, capturing the moment where education meets the realities of the industry.

The project, created during the examination phase, focused on presenting a fashion student’s mid-exam collection through a fully realized editorial production intended for portfolio and presentation purposes.

The shoot featured original garments designed by students of the Meisterschule für Mode, highlighting the school’s long-standing reputation for combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion concepts. Known for its strong technical training and close connection to the professional fashion world, the Munich-based institution places great emphasis on giving students first-hand industry experience throughout their education.

For major projects, including final exams and graduation collections, the school works under real production conditions. Professional models are regularly hired and selected by the students themselves, allowing each designer to cast the faces that best represent their vision.

In addition, the school assembles full production teams consisting of makeup artists, photographers, videographers, and backstage crew, ensuring that every large project reflects the standards of the professional fashion industry.

Each year, the final collections are presented in a full runway production with more than 25 models, staged at the renowned Muffathalle at Muffatwerk, one of Munich’s most established cultural event spaces. These shows mark the highlight of the academic year, where students present their work in front of an audience under real show conditions, bridging the gap between education and professional practice.

For this and numerous other projects, international fashion model Mokka Spectrum was hired on a regular basis as an in-house model through Adelinde Knorr Showdesign, who coordinates the productions for the school each year.

In this role, Mokka worked across multiple departments, collaborating with future designers, textile masters, graphic designers, and design videographers, contributing to portfolio productions, examination projects, and graduation work.

These productions ranged from graduate student collections to bachelor programs and master studies, giving students the opportunity to present their work under professional conditions with an experienced model in front of the camera.

Photography for this editorial was created by Michael W. Fuchs, photographer and teacher at the school, whose dual role as educator and image-maker shaped the project into both a learning experience and a high-quality editorial production. Under his direction, the shoot focused on clean composition, precise lighting, and a clear presentation of silhouette and material — essential elements for evaluating design work in an academic setting.

The result is an editorial that not only showcases student fashion, but also reflects the process behind it: experimentation, discipline, and the transition from classroom to industry, where young creatives take their first steps into the professional world.
