Heaven Hill Academy Foundation
A non-profit organisation offering free of charge education for the underprivileged children of Gaunshahar village in Nepal. Enjoying a stunning location in the hillside beneath the Himalayas, it continues to grow and flourish with volunteer support.
Heaven Hill Academy is the first 100% free private school in Nepal. Located in Gaunshahar, one of the poorest regions in the country, we cover all tuition fees, uniforms and school materials for children from the lowest castes and economic backgrounds, easing the burden on families and allowing children to focus on learning in a non-violent environment that promotes self-development and creativity.
Heaven Hill Academy does not receive any government support, therefore depends solely on donations and volunteer support from around the world!

In 2014, I came across a post written by Shamser Thapa in a travel community on Couchsurfing.org. After getting in contact with him, I became deeply interested in his work, the Heaven Hill Academy, and Nepalese culture. His dedication inspired me to support the project and make it my primary cause.
Since then, I have supported the project by raising awareness, selling merchandise to generate donations, contributing financially whenever possible, and encouraging people to experience the work firsthand through volunteering at Heaven Hill. In 2023, I also organized and sent two large donation packages to Nepal to support the school with needed supplies.
In 2020, Heaven Hill Academy provides free education for around 300 students, from nursery level up to grade six.
In Nepal, social class separation remains strongly rooted in tradition, and violence has long been present in many family and school environments. Shamser Thapa has taken a different path. He introduced a strict no-violence policy at his school and focuses on respectful, supportive education. Children are taught without physical punishment and are provided with the materials, care, and encouragement they need to learn and develop in a healthy environment.
What he is building is considered highly progressive and, in many ways, revolutionary within the local system. Because of this, the project faces ongoing challenges and receives little to no government support. In several cases, official permission to build and expand the school has been delayed or denied, making it difficult to grow the program, create new facilities, and continue the volunteer teaching initiatives.
Despite these obstacles, the Heaven Hill community continues to grow through dedication, international support, and the belief that education can change lives.
