DEMO’19 — Graduation Fashion Show marked the annual summer showcase of the Deutsche Meisterschule für Mode, also known as the Designschule München, a long-standing highlight in Munich’s cultural calendar that celebrates the next generation of fashion and design.

Each year, shortly before the academic term ends, students present their work in a full runway production that brings together industry professionals, local media, family, friends, and supporters of contemporary design.

The show presents the work of students from the first through the third year, offering a complete overview of the school’s design program. First-year students introduce the so-called House Collection, developed under a shared concept using materials provided by the school. Created as a collaborative exercise in technique and discipline, the collection is made available for purchase after the show, with all proceeds returning to the institution to fund future materials and support the next generation of designers.

The highlight of the evening belongs to the graduating class. Third-year students present fully self-developed collections, conceived, designed, and constructed independently as the final step of their education. These works represent months of research, technical development, and artistic refinement, forming the centerpiece of the event. A professional jury evaluates the collections according to industry standards, considering concept, craftsmanship, innovation, and presentation. The three strongest graduates receive special recognition, giving them valuable visibility and the opportunity to begin their careers directly after completing their studies.

More than a fashion show, DEMO has become a yearly gathering of Munich’s creative community — a meeting point for fashion enthusiasts, cultural audiences, friends, family, and press, all coming together to support young talent at the moment they step into the professional world.

The 2019 show opened with a video produced by the school’s media students, setting the tone for an evening that reflects the interdisciplinary character of the institution, where fashion, graphic design, and media production work side by side.

The full production is realized by Adelinde Knorr Showdesign in collaboration with the renowned cultural venue Muffatwerk, with the runway staged in the iconic Muffathalle. The event is supported by the City of Munich through the state-recognized Meisterschule für Mode, underlining its importance as both an educational milestone and a cultural event.
